John Behan, 1845-1912, was county deputy sheriff at Tombstone, Ariz., 1879-1881, then became first county sheriff when Cochise County was created in 1881. Cochise County sheriff, Territorial legislator, Prison superintendent, and Inspector of Customs; Behan arrived in Tucson in 1863. He served in many public law enforcement positions including his appointment as Sheriff of Cochise County in 1879.
